What we did

Adjacent to a Grade I listed Georgian building in the centre of Stamford, Lincolnshire, this private garden initially contained little more than a few established specimens.

The project remit was to design the garden to be a relaxing and diverse space, with interesting elements that would blend effortlessly with the house and its setting.  The client’s desire for a formal garden sloping away from the house itself and a transition into a more relaxed, informal design beyond the house apron meant accommodating two contrasting styles.  The seating and range of plants specified ensured the best view of continuous colour, form and interest across the seasons.

Both styles intertwined into one harmonious design which reconciled the different forms into one holistic garden.  This included a path, meandering through the garden, providing simple access to both enjoy and maintain the planted areas as well as a small pond and fountain to lend  a gentle audible backdrop of running water.

Each focal point maximised the opportunities to pause and reflect on the different elements and features peppering the design.
