Keary Design Associates have created a simple landscaped open space for a secondary school’s grounds in Leicester, as well as selecting plants to encourage wildlife and stimulate student interest as an educational resource.
Working with Miller Developments and their programme of construction developments in the education sector, KDA were charged with delivering a clean, functional yet appealing landscape at the main entrance, around the parking areas and the building environs. The soft landscaping scheme incorporates shrubs and strategically positioned trees across the site. Liaising with the client and contractors to complete the scheme in 2012, the design also takes care of the watercourse and embankment with a wildlife seed mix creating a haven for insects and birds as well as improving the visual aspect.
With the challenges of the site, the watercourse and the need to maintain a tight and controlled budget, the plants were carefully selected to suit the rigours of school grounds as well as providing an educational resource in the areas designed to encourage wildlife.
